It is one of the greatest privileges to walk alongside individuals and help them realize that there is hope and that their story matters. I’m grateful to the University of Mary Social Work Program for preparing me so well for a career of encountering people in a way that honors their inherent dignity and worth.

Katie Krukenberg, MSW, LMSW

Associate Professor of Behavioral Sciences, Director of Social Work Field Education

I am the director of social work and teach classes on social work theory, generalist practice, practice with families, criminal justice, and working with diverse populations. I work with freshmen in the Liffrig Family School of Education and Behavioral Sciences through the First Year Experience class and Emerging Leaders Academy. Additionally,  I am one of the faculty advisors for the behavioral science student organization (PACS). I received the 2023 Outstanding Faculty Award and the 2023 Bismarck-Mandan Chamber EDC Outstanding Teacher in Higher Education, both student-nominated awards. Outside of my work at the university, I frequently work with social work agencies and professionals to provide continuing education and professional development.

Sarah Holzer, MSW, LMSW

Assistant Professor of Social Work, Field Director of Social Work

I serve as an assistant professor and field director in the social work department, where I will be teaching a wide range of social work courses and working with junior and senior students with their field placements. Additionally, I will be advising many students in the program. In my free time, I love being with my family, whether we are watching a sporting event, being at the lake, or just spending time together. I have a lot of fun cooking, trying new recipes, and being in the mountains, where I can hike and enjoy the views.
